Often referred to as the "intense island," Reunion Island offers a natural environment that is both wild and beautiful. Among its greatest assets are its paradisiacal beaches and diverse landscapes.
Reunion is an island of scenic beauty, a convergence of beaches, lush forests, and a surprisingly rich indigenous culture that remains relatively unknown to visitors. It's a wonderful destination whether you're traveling with family, a significant other, or friends.
There's plenty to enjoy — explore the island's wildlife and flora, go hiking, embark on excursions, or visit its beaches, volcanoes, and waterfalls.
Nature lovers will head south to explore the Garden of Spices and Perfumes and the Cap Méchant, both must-see spots. For those seeking relaxation, the beaches of Saint-Gilles, Saint-Leu, and La Saline are easily accessible. Discover Reunion Island by canyoning in Cilaos, trekking to the Piton de la Fournaise, or mountain biking through the Tamarins forest — a paradise for sports and adventure enthusiasts.
Quintrip travel specialists can also combine your trip with Mauritius for a longer island-hopping getaway. Get in touch to start planning your next sun-filled adventure.

About Reunion Island
Get lost in the greenery or dive into the water — a journey to Reunion Island means volcanoes, cirques, and stunning beaches, all part of an untouched natural beauty at the heart of the Indian Ocean. The island is famous for its warm, clear waters and abundant marine life, with about thirty kilometres of sandy shores, including 22 kilometres of lagoon protected by well-preserved coral reefs. Snorkelling, bodyboarding, surfing, and paddleboarding are all welcome in the lagoons and monitored areas, with warning systems and protective equipment in place to reduce shark risk.
Surround yourself with lush tropical greenery and vibrant flowers inland — the closer you get to the western coast, the drier the ground becomes, taking on a reddish hue from the heat. This western side offers over 35 kilometres of sandy beaches, alongside a reputation for ecotourism and hiking, plus windsurfing, water skiing, scuba diving, and deep-sea fishing thanks to the island's unique conditions.
Along the coast, Trou d'Eau beach at the southern tip of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains is a quiet, unmonitored spot for snorkelling, paddleboarding, and kayaking, popular with locals for picnics and evening strolls. Grande Anse Beach offers a postcard-worthy stretch of golden sand and coconut palms, with a safe pool area protected by rocks for swimming despite strong waves further out. Étang-Salé beach is known for its black volcanic sand and calm waters, ideal for relaxing strolls over its 1.5 kilometres, while Tremblet/Vieux Port beach near Saint-Philippe — formed in 2007 by an eruption of the Piton de la Fournaise — is one of the youngest beaches in the world, its fine black sand making for a wild, remote spot.
Hermitage Beach, between Saint-Gilles and La Saline, spans about 7 kilometres overlooking a calm lagoon protected by coral reefs. With waters no deeper than 1-2 metres, it's ideal for children to swim and snorkel, while families gather in the shade of filao trees for weekend picnics.
