Property Overview

Niyama Private Islands Maldives extends across two connected natural islands, known as Play and Chill. Play has a more active focus, with family facilities, water sports and direct access to the resort’s surf break, while Chill is home to Drift Spa and several quieter spaces. The resort has 134 recently refurbished villas and pavilions, ranging from one to three bedrooms and positioned on the beach or over the water. Dining is another central part of the experience, with settings that include the treetops at Nest, the offshore Edge restaurant and Subsix beneath the surface of the ocean.

How far is the nearest beach?

The resort occupies two private islands with direct access to sandy beaches. Beach Villas are positioned beside the shore and provide direct access from their private outdoor areas, while the overwater categories have steps leading from their decks into the lagoon.

Distance from Airport

Niyama is approximately 45 minutes from Velana International Airport by seaplane. Guests can alternatively take a domestic flight of around 35 minutes to Dhaalu Airport, followed by a ten-minute speedboat transfer to the resort. Seaplane services operate during daylight hours.

Rooms

The resort’s 134 refurbished villas and pavilions range from one to three bedrooms. Beach Villas provide direct access to the sand and have indoor and outdoor areas measuring between 135 and 190 square metres, with selected categories adding a private plunge pool. Overwater Villas measure between 175 and 190 square metres and include direct lagoon access, a sundeck and private pool. The larger Pavilions offer beach or overwater settings, separate living and dining areas, pools with jacuzzis and up to 770 square metres of space. Thakuru Villa Host service is available across the accommodation collection.

Food & Drink

Niyama has nine restaurants, alongside bars and private dining experiences. Epicure offers international dining beside the infinity pool, while Blu serves Mediterranean-inspired food in a family-friendly beachfront setting. Nest is positioned among the treetops, and Tribal specialises in African, Central American and South American flavours. Edge is located half a kilometre offshore and reached by boat, with Subsix situated beneath the ocean nearby. More casual options include Dune, The Deli and the Surf Shack, while meals can also be arranged privately in a villa, aboard a dhoni or on a deserted island.

Experiences & Activities

The resort’s activities cover the ocean and both islands. FLOAT provides diving and water sports such as windsurfing, wakeboarding, catamaran sailing and underwater rocket rides. Guests can also join snorkelling trips, fishing excursions and dolphin cruises, or surf directly from Play Island at Vodi. Land-based facilities include tennis and badminton courts, indoor and outdoor fitness areas and daily yoga overlooking the surf. Explorers Kids Club welcomes children from one to twelve years old, with programmes divided into four age groups.

Drift Spa has six overwater treatment rooms and two private garden sanctuaries with outdoor baths, rain showers and daybeds.
