Property Overview

Southern Palms Beach Resort is set directly on Diani Beach, 35 kilometres south of Mombasa. Opened in 1992 and renovated in 2019, the property combines Swahili and Arabic design influences with modern facilities. Its 298 rooms and two suites are arranged across ten acres of tropical grounds.

Two large freeform swimming pools extend through much of the resort, alongside four restaurants, four bars and facilities for children and active travellers. The scale of the property provides plenty of choice, while the gardens and beachfront location create comfortable spaces for quieter moments.

How far is the nearest beach?

The resort is located directly on Diani Beach, giving guests immediate access to the sandy shoreline from the property’s grounds.

Distance from Airport

Ukunda Airport is approximately 5.5 kilometres from the resort and is the closest airport. Moi International Airport in Mombasa is considerably farther away, with the road journey also requiring the crossing between Mombasa and the South Coast.

Rooms

The resort’s rooms include Superior, Superior Deluxe, Ocean Front and Ocean Front Deluxe categories. All provide air conditioning, a flat-screen television, a mini fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Bathrooms have a shower, hairdryer and shaver socket.

Superior Rooms have balconies overlooking the pools or grounds, while Superior Deluxe Rooms open onto larger garden-facing terraces. The Ocean Front categories add Indian Ocean views, with Ocean Front Deluxe Rooms positioned only a short distance from the beach.

PALMS RESTAURANT

Palms Restaurant is an open-air buffet venue beneath a large makuti roof. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, combining African, Indian and European dishes. Live cooking areas include a grill, an African Corner, an Indian Corner and a pasta station.

BORITI SNACK RESTAURANT

Boriti Snack Restaurant offers informal open-air dining with views towards the pools and beach. Its à-la-carte menu focuses on international snacks, with service available for lunch and afternoon tea.

MANYATTA RESTAURANT

Manyatta Grill is positioned beside the swimming pool and serves African-inspired grilled dishes at dinner. The restaurant is available to registered guests without an additional dining charge, although advance reservations are required.

LA VIA ROMANA ITALIAN RESTAURANT

La Via Romana provides rooftop dining with a Mediterranean table d’hôte menu. Dinner is served in the evening beneath the open sky and is included for registered guests, subject to advance reservation.

SHARWAMA & DESSERT LOUNGE

Overlooking the pools and tropical gardens, the lounge serves shawarma, freshly prepared pastries and speciality coffees. All food and drinks ordered here are charged separately.
