Moyenne Island National Park, Seychelles

Moyenne is one of the Seychelles' innermost islands, measuring just 0.4km long, 0.3km broad, and with a 2km shoreline. Its tallest point is just 61m above the river. A thick, uninterrupted wall of trees covers Moyenne, making a low pyramid over the water's edge. With blue sky and sapphire water, it seems like a little jungle rising from the sea.

The island has no jetty, so landing here is a magical experience: wading barefoot into the shallows, you feel like you're on a deserted island. The trees shut in behind you as you reach dry ground and take your first steps up the slowly ascending woodland route.

Even during peak tourist season, the island seldom sees more than 50 people at a time, and never more than 300 in a day. Except for Ile Cachee, the Ste Anne Marine Park has no hotel construction or other private property ownership. Moyenne is likely to remain so thanks to Grimshaw and his pals.
