Beau Vallon: beach, night market and hiking trails

Updated: 24 October 2025 - Author: Quintin Carlson

About 3km from Victoria on Mahé's northwest coast, Beau Vallon is one of the Seychelles' longest and most popular beaches — roughly 1.5km of calm, shallow water with no strong currents or exposed coral, which makes it a genuinely safe pick for families as well as anyone after a resort-style beach day. Easily reached by bus, car or taxi from the capital, it works well as either a day trip or a full base for your stay.

Beau Vallon: beach, night market and hiking trails

Water sports

Beau Vallon's calm, sheltered waters and long shoreline make it one of Mahé's best spots for snorkelling, boating, fishing, surfing, windsurfing and scuba diving — the beach itself is free, though equipment rental and dive trips are paid separately through the various operators based along it. A lifeguard on duty, plentiful parking and a frequent bus stop right on the beach road make it one of the more convenient options on the island.

Sunset and the weekly night market

Late afternoon at Beau Vallon is genuinely one of the better ways to end a day in the Seychelles — locals fishing from the shore, shade under the trees, and a sky that puts on a proper show over the water. A weekly night market along the beach adds another reason to stick around into the evening: grilled fish with rice, curries, banana and breadfruit chips, and live music from local bands that turns a quiet dinner into something more like a genuine local occasion.

Eden Island

A short drive from Beau Vallon, on Mahé's east coast, Eden Island is an artificial island built around a marina lined with luxury villas, high-end hotels and retail — a stroll along the Eden Island Marina among the yachts, or a Friday night out at the Boardwalk, gives a very different (and considerably more polished) side of Seychelles life than the beach itself.

Hiking near Beau Vallon

For a change of pace from the beach, Mahé's hiking trails are close enough to fit into a Beau Vallon-based stay without much travel. The Copolia Walk, a 1.6km trail through native forest, is one of the island's more popular eco-attractions, with views stretching toward Victoria and Eden Island on the east coast — around 45 minutes each way, and genuinely worth an early start if you want to catch sunrise from the top. Morne Blanc, a tougher hike with a 630m elevation gain over a similar 1.6km distance, takes about an hour and rewards a higher fitness level with correspondingly better views.

For Victoria itself, the National Museum of History and the Clock Tower, see our Victoria city guide — all three sit close enough to Beau Vallon to combine easily into the same trip.
