Tropical Attitude is a small adults-only boutique hotel facing the lagoon near Trou d’Eau Douce on Mauritius’ east coast. Rated 3*+ by the Attitude group, it has 58 sea-facing rooms and 11 private-pool villas. Its size and relaxed layout give the property a more intimate character than a large resort, with Île aux Cerfs directly across the water and reached by a complimentary boat shuttle.

The design draws on Creole architecture, natural tones and furnishings made by Mauritian artisans. Coconut palms, open spaces and views across the lagoon shape the atmosphere, while experiences centred on local food, music and community provide a stronger sense of place. How far is the nearest beach?

Tropical Attitude faces the lagoon directly, although there is no wide sandy beach immediately in front of the hotel. Guests can take the complimentary boat shuttle to Île aux Cerfs, where sandy beaches and swimming areas are available just across the water.

Tropical Attitude is approximately 50 kilometres from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. The transfer usually takes around one hour, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Rooms

Tropical Attitude has 58 sea-facing rooms and 11 villas, all reserved for adult guests. Interiors use light, natural shades with brighter accents, while furniture and decorative pieces produced by local artisans introduce a recognisably Mauritian character.

● The 34 Couple Seafront Rooms measure 25 square metres and accommodate two adults. Each has a balcony and a sea view. One room has been adapted for guests with reduced mobility.

● The 24 Couple Deluxe Seafront Rooms offer 30 square metres of space. All are on the ground floor, positioned along the beachfront and facing the sea.

● The 11 Villas measure 60 square metres and accommodate two adults. Each includes a private garden and a 16-square-metre swimming pool, making this the most private accommodation option at the hotel.

Food & Drink

Dining at Tropical Attitude is divided between three restaurants, an additional lobster-dinner experience, a main bar and the self-service Teabaz tea bar. The emphasis is on Mauritian flavours, fresh ingredients and informal settings rather than formal fine dining.

● Bor Lamer is the main seaside restaurant and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its selection combines international dishes with local and seasonal produce. Examples published by the hotel include fish rougaille, grilled squid salad, smoked marlin and pumpkin-and-ginger soup.

● Kot Nou is the hotel’s Mauritian signature restaurant. Local dishes are reworked and served tapas-style at dinner in a smaller, more intimate setting.

● Taba-J operates from a small caravan and specialises in Mauritian street food. Faratas, rotis, chilli cakes and chutneys are served outdoors, with tea, coffee and local snacks offered during the afternoon.

SPA & Wellness

POZ Spa follows Attitude’s locally focused approach to wellness. Its beauty and massage products are made exclusively for the spa by Indika, a Mauritian company that cultivates medicinal plants in the Ferney Valley. The range is handmade, natural, vegan and locally produced, with recyclable packaging.

The spa has three massage rooms: two individual rooms and one designed for couples. A separate Brides’ Room is available for wedding preparations. Treatments must be reserved in advance and are offered daily from 09:00 to 19:30.

Five per cent of profits from the POZ skincare range are donated to the Attitude Foundation, which supports projects connected with Mauritius’ communities, economy and coastal and marine environments. Guests can complement spa treatments with meditation and tai chi sessions included among the hotel’s land-based activities.
