YouTube is a video hosting and streaming website that includes social elements for content sharing and commentary. It is one of the most popular websites on the internet. Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, three PayPal workers, founded it in 2005. The next year, in October, Google paid $1.65 billion for YouTube. The service is supported by advertisements included in the videos. YouTube has over a billion users. The program is offered in 88 different countries and 76 different languages. Smartphones account for more than half of the one billion hours of video watched each day. YouTube's French version was released in June 2007. YouTube is divided into topical categories, and it has a search engine that enables viewers to discover material by using keywords. While the majority of the videos are posted by people known as "youtubers," the site has steadily grown into a broad entertainment platform that contains several official channels of conventional media. The most popular YouTube channels, as well as the site's official partners, earn a cut of the advertising money generated.
